Nigerian star Tiwa Savage firmly rejected recent claims that Afrobeats is going through its worst period in twenty years. In recent weeks, several figures in the music industry, including Paul Okoye (Paulo) and DJ Big N, have suggested that the continent’s flagship genre is losing steam.

But during her appearance at the Unstoppable Africans event, the singer delivered a very different message. “Afrobeats is the fastest-growing music genre in the world”, she said, highlighting that the movement was built ” without support, without infrastructure and without real conviction, even within our own community ».

Tiwa Savage also spoke about the genre’s cultural impact, admitting that as a child in London she struggled to embrace her African roots. “Today, I’m proud to see how much Afrobeats is growing and inspiring,” she added. Responding to critics predicting the style’s decline, the performer of Somebody’s Son insisted: ” They said Afrobeats would be here for only a while. But we’re still here, we fill stadiums and our tracks dominate the charts.”

And she concluded proudly: “They may try to silence us, but the music won’t disappear. We are Africans, and we are unstoppable.”
