A South Korean woman was sentenced to four years in prison for extorting Los Angeles FC star and South Korea national team captain Son Heung-min. The Seoul Central District Court delivered its verdict against the accused, identified by the surname Yang, who was found guilty of extracting nearly 300 million won (about $200,000) from the player in 2024.
According to several local media outlets, Yang allegedly sent Son an ultrasound claiming to be pregnant with his child, then threatened to make the matter public if he refused to pay. The money obtained was reportedly spent on luxury goods.
Earlier this year, the defendant allegedly attempted another extortion for an additional 70 million won. It was this attempt that reportedly prompted Son to alert the authorities, leading to Yang’s arrest and indictment.
