Ouassà-Péhunco: 426 kg of counterfeit medicines seized by the police
The Republican Police conducted, in the locality of Ouassà-Péhunco, the seizure of a large quantity of falsified and prohibited medicines, a security source said on Tuesday.

In total, 426 kilograms of counterfeit pharmaceutical products were taken off the market during this operation, carried out as part of the fight against the illicit trade in medicines in Benin.
The discovery occurred following a series of checks carried out by Republican Police officers, alerted to the presence of suspicious pharmaceutical products for sale at unauthorized outlets in the area.
The seized products include tablets, syrups and packaging lacking sanitary certification, the origin and composition of which remain to be established by the competent authorities.
Falsified medicines pose a serious threat to public health, due to the lack of traceability, manufacturing standards and guaranteed efficacy.
Their presence on the market exposes consumers to high health risks, notably adverse reactions, ineffective treatments or worsening health conditions.
After the seizure, the products were moved to police units to be presented to the judicial authorities for prosecution of the authors of this offense.
The Republican Police emphasized that the investigation will continue in order to identify the networks involved in the introduction and sale of these counterfeit medicines.
This action is part of the ongoing efforts by law enforcement authorities to protect public health and enforce regulatory standards for pharmaceutical products.
Authorities also urge citizens to stay vigilant and to report any suspicious activity related to the sale of medicines outside official channels.
