On September 8, 2025, the Ministry of Nursery and Primary Education issued a written warning to several private school proprietors. The reason: the premature closure of their schools before the school holidays, observed during an inspection mission conducted this past June, from June 10 to 28.
According to the letter signed by Minister Salimane Karimou, these practices violate Article 2 of interministerial order No. 038/MEMP/MESTFP/DC/SGM/DIP/DEP/DEM/DEC/DIPQ/DESG/DESTFP/SA/022SGG-24 of May 13, 2024, which sets the calendar for the 2024-2025 school year.
They also contravene Decree No. 2007-279 of June 16, 2007, notably its Article 11, which requires private school proprietors to make a formal commitment to comply with official instructions.
The warning is based on Article 92, paragraph 2 of the same decree, which authorizes the administration to issue a written warning in the event of a breach. To that end, the departmental directors of nursery and primary education have been instructed to ensure strict compliance with this provision.
With this decision, the Ministry aims to remind heads of private institutions that any deviation from the official calendar disrupts the smooth functioning of the education system and constitutes a violation of established rules. Harsher measures could be considered in the event of a repeat offense.
