Borgou is set to host a major sports infrastructure. Meeting in its weekly session on Wednesday, September 3, 2025, the Beninese government gave the green light for the construction of a departmental multi-sport stadium in Parakou. This decision reflects the authorities’ determination to improve conditions for sports practice and support the emergence of local talent.
The project, whose features have been outlined, includes a main football pitch with FIFA Quality Pro synthetic turf, an athletics track, and multiple courts for handball, basketball, volleyball, and tennis. These sports areas will be fitted with modern composite surfaces, meeting international standards.
A project under strict oversight
Beyond competition areas, the facility will also feature spectator stands, a technical room, a camera platform, as well as a water tower and borehole to ensure water supply. The complex is designed to meet the needs of athletes across disciplines and provide the public with a proper venue for major competitions.
To ensure quality and compliance, the Council of Ministers authorized contracts with qualified companies. The relevant ministers have been instructed to strictly enforce the project specifications. This oversight underscores the government’s commitment to providing Parakou with durable, world-class infrastructure.
With this future stadium, the city of Parakou will position itself as a major hub for hosting national and regional sporting events.
