The Nigerian singer Ayra Starr confirmed she left Lagos to move to New York, a choice she fully stands by. The news was revealed during her appearance on the show Buck N Regg on American radio Hot 93.7 FM. The 23-year-old artist, whose career is rapidly rising on the international scene, explained that her attachment to New York didn’t start yesterday. She has now been living there permanently for a few weeks.
« I live in New York now, I moved in less than two months ago. This city reminds me a lot of Lagos. There’s a strong Nigerian community, so I feel at home there », she said. She also said she hesitated for a long time before taking the plunge: « I remember getting on stage here and thinking to myself: maybe I could live in this city. It was a revealing moment. I told myself that I really loved this place.»
Now settled, Ayra Starr says she is moving forward with clarity and determination: « I know why I’m here. I know my priorities. And I’m here to fully enjoy this new chapter. »
