Jamaica: death of reggae legend Jimmy Cliff
The Jamaican singer, an iconic figure in reggae, has died following an epileptic seizure followed by pneumonia, his family said in a statement.

Jamaican singer and actor James Chambers, known worldwide as Jimmy Cliff, has passed away, his family announced in a statement posted on social media. The reggae icon died “ from an epileptic seizure followed by pneumonia “, his wife said. “ It is with deep sadness that I announce the death of my husband, Jimmy Cliff,” she wrote on the artist’s official Facebook page, before thanking “ his family, his friends, his colleagues and everyone who shared his journey.”
She also addressed a message to the singer’s fans, a major figure in reggae since the 1970s: “ To all his fans around the world, know that your support was his strength throughout his career. He truly appreciated the love everyone showed him.” Jimmy Cliff’s wife expressed her gratitude to Dr Couceyro and the medical staff who cared for him ” with unwavering dedication”. “Jimmy, my love, rest in peace. I will honor your final wishes,” she concluded, asking for the family’s privacy to be respected.
