Located in the Haie-Vive district in Cotonou, the new mission also covers Togo, Ghana, and the Ivory Coast, thereby expanding Chad’s diplomatic footprint in the subregion.

This establishment marks an important step in the consolidation of relations between N’Djamena and Cotonou. It aims to further structure political exchanges, to encourage economic and cultural partnerships, and to support academic cooperation.

Through this decision, the two states express their joint will to place their cooperation within a sustainable dynamic, founded on historical convergences and a shared ambition for regional integration.

During the opening ceremony, Chad’s chargé d’affaires in Benin, Mori Tamasta Namde, noted that upgrading the Consulate General to an embassy responds to the positive evolution of bilateral relations. According to him, this new diplomatic framework will allow for more effective support of joint initiatives and intensify institutional exchanges between the two countries.

On the Beninese side, the Director of External Relations, Marius Loko, welcomed this installation, which he considers a strategic opportunity. He reaffirmed the Beninese authorities’ willingness to work with the Chadian side in order to make this representation an active instrument of cooperation, notably in the economic, cultural, and academic sectors.

Beyond the diplomatic dimension, the opening of the Chad embassy in Cotonou also opens the way to strengthening security cooperation, in a regional context marked by common challenges. It thus stands as a new anchor point for the rapprochement between West Africa and Central Africa.
