Benin – Municipal and legislative elections on January 11: the documents voters may use
As the dual legislative and municipal elections scheduled for January 11, 2026 approach, the Autonomous National Electoral Commission (CENA) reminds Beninese voters of the documents officially recognized to prove their identity at polling stations.

To be able to exercise their right to vote, voters must present a valid, authentic photo ID. Several types of documents are accepted for this purpose, offering some flexibility while ensuring the regularity of the election.
Among the accepted documents are the voter card issued from the computerized Permanent Electoral List (LEPI), the national identity card, and the ECOWAS biometric identity card.
Those holding a valid passport or a driver’s license may also vote by presenting these documents.
Other official photo IDs are also recognised, such as the professional identity card, the civilian or military pension booklet, the Personal Identification Certificate (CIP), and the school identity card.
The new “Carte C’est Moi”, known as the FID (Personal Identification Certificate) issued by ANIP, is also among the valid documents.
Only one of these documents is sufficient to prove a voter’s identity at the time of voting, provided that it is valid and compliant with administrative standards.
The electoral authorities encourage citizens to verify now that they have an admissible identity document to avoid any difficulties at the polls.
