Bryan Mbeumo has become the first recipient of the SuperSport African Premier League Player of the Month award, a new accolade determined by votes from African supporters. The Cameroonian forward for Manchester United was recognized for his performances in August 2026.

SuperSport announced the launch of this award on September 15. In its inaugural edition, Mbeumo outpaced Antoine Semenyo, Mamadou Sangaré, Semi Ajayi, and Nobel Mendy in the fan voting. This award is separate from the official EA Sports Player of the Month trophy awarded by the Premier League.

The Cameroonian scored during Manchester United’s 5-2 victory over Ipswich Town on August 30 at Old Trafford. In the 82nd minute, he lobbed the goalkeeper after a pass from Bruno Fernandes to net the fifth goal for Manchester United.

This goal later won Manchester United’s internal vote for the goal of the month for August, notably preferred by fans over Bruno Fernandes’ hat-trick scored in the same match.

The new SuperSport award will be presented each month to an African player competing in the Premier League. A shortlist of candidates is created based on performances from the previous month, followed by a 72-hour voting window open to supporters.

The official EA Sports Player of the Month award for August 2026 was won by João Pedro. The Chelsea forward recorded four decisive contributions during his team’s first two league matches.
