Volleyball: Cameroon defeats Rwanda 3-1 to finish unbeaten at the top

Cameroon finished unbeaten at the top of Pool D in the 2026 African Men’s Volleyball Championship after defeating Rwanda 3-1 on Thursday, September 17, in Tunis. After losing the first set, the Indomitable Lions won three consecutive sets: 18-25, 25-21, 25-23, 25-19.

This third victory in three matches brings Cameroon to 9 points. The Cameroonians had previously dominated the Democratic Republic of Congo and the Central African Republic, winning both matches 3-0, and concluded the first round with nine sets won and only one lost.

Rwanda struck first, taking the opening set 25-18. Cameroon responded by winning the second set 25-21, then clinched a tightly contested third set 25-23 before finishing with a 25-19 victory. The match lasted 1 hour and 48 minutes, with Cameroon scoring 93 points compared to Rwanda’s 88.

The difference was particularly evident at the net. The CAVB recorded 45 successful attacks and 16 blocks for Cameroon, while Rwanda had 36 attacks and 8 blocks. Adji M. was the top scorer for Cameroon with 11 points, followed by A. Gambo, who contributed 10 points.

The victory confirms the consistency of a team that had not dropped a set in its first two outings. Against Rwanda, Cameroon had to rally after being down a set to maintain its perfect record in the competition.

Rwanda finishes second in Pool D with 6 points, ahead of the Democratic Republic of Congo with 3 points, while the Central African Republic ends the group without any points.
