Calvin Bassey has revisited the Super Eagles’ elimination in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations semi-final against the Atlas Lions of Morocco, while stating that Nigeria will fight to the end to clinch third place. On Wednesday night in Rabat, the Fulham defender was one of the most prominent Nigerians. Solid and diligent, he notably managed to contain Moroccan forward Ayoub El Kaabi throughout the match.

Despite the disappointment of not reaching the final, the 26-year-old player stressed the team’s collective performance and expressed pride. “We thank God in all circumstances. What a cruel end to the tournament! The support and solidarity we felt were exceptional. Sorry we couldn’t go all the way, but we fought until the end. We will draw lessons from this experience. It’s not over yet; we still have goals to achieve,” wrote Bassey on the X social network.

Nigeria will face Egypt on Saturday, at the Mohammed V Sports Complex in Casablanca, in the third-place match. Calvin Bassey will, however, be suspended for this clash against the Pharaohs led by Hossam Hassan.
