More fear than harm for Anthony Joshua. The boxing star was involved this Monday in a serious road traffic accident on the Lagos–Ibadan axis, one of the country’s busiest highways. According to Daily Post Nigeria, the vehicle in which the British boxer was traveling collided with a stationary truck loaded with agricultural products in the Makun area of Ogun State. The exact circumstances of the tragedy remain to be determined and are the subject of an ongoing investigation.

While Anthony Joshua came away with minor injuries, the human toll is heavy. Two members of his convoy, who were in the same SUV as him, died at the scene. His security detail was following in a second vehicle, spared from the impact.

The accident occurred near the Danco service station, before the Sagamu interchange, heading toward Ibadan. Since the announcement of the tragedy, social media has been flooded with messages of support for the boxer and the families of the victims. Nigerian authorities are continuing their investigations to shed light on this tragic event.
