Mourinho and Real Madrid: Could a return be possible soon?
A clause in his contract with Benfica could pave the way for José Mourinho to Real Madrid, reviving speculation about a possible comeback in La Liga.
José Mourinho has never really cut ties with Real Madrid. Barely arrived at Benfica on a two-year contract, the ‘Special One’ nevertheless has a clause allowing him to leave the Lisbon club without compensation within ten days after the end of the season. A rare provision, but one that could facilitate his return to Spain, especially to Madrid, the capital.
Even if the Portuguese coach seems fulfilled in Lisbon and wants to continue his project with Benfica, this legal and financial opportunity does not go unnoticed. The sometimes tense relationship with Florentino Pérez does not seem to rule out negotiations, especially as key moments of the European season approach. According to information from the Spanish daily AS, discussions could be considered soon, notably around the Champions League round of 16 matches.
