The split between Manchester United and Ruben Amorim is shaping up to be particularly costly. According to financial documents filed recently with the New York Stock Exchange, the dismissal of the Portuguese coach and his staff could cost up to £15.9 million for the English club. Amorim and his five assistants were let go on January 5, after only fourteen months on the Manchester United bench.

Following a meeting with sporting director Jason Wilcox and chief executive Omar Berrada, the 41-year-old coach has already received a severance package estimated at £10 million. But the total bill could rise depending on contractual clauses, especially if Amorim does not quickly find another position.

In the end, between the costs of his recruitment and those of his ousting, the bill could rise to £27 million for the Red Devils. A substantial amount that once again illustrates the high price of sporting instability at the highest level.
