A deadly crowd surge marked the concert of Nigerian artist Asake on Saturday, December 20, in Nairobi, Kenya. A 20-year-old woman, Karen Lojore, died at Nyayo National Stadium, where the massive turnout triggered a crowd surge. According to information gathered, on-site rescuers attempted to revive her before rushing her to Nairobi West Hospital, where her death was ultimately confirmed.

The event organizer, Tukutane Entertainment, confirmed the tragedy in a statement published on Instagram. « We are deeply saddened to confirm that a tragic incident occurred during our December 20 concert, resulting in a loss of life », the organization said, expressing its solidarity with the victim’s family and loved ones and pledging to cooperate fully with authorities to shed light on the circumstances of the tragedy.

This latest incident echoes previous accidents that occurred at Asake’s concerts. In December 2022, Rebecca Ikumelo, a 33-year-old Nigerian woman and mother of two, died at London’s Brixton O2 Academy after being severely injured in a crowd surge, according to the Daily Post.
