CAN 2025: Mozambique galvanized by a big bonus ahead of the clash with Nigeria.
On the eve of their Round of 16 clash with Nigeria, the Mozambican national team advances buoyed by the confidence of its president, who has promised an exceptional bonus in case of an upset.
Mozambique coach Chiquinho Conde said that the bonus promised by President Daniel Francisco Chapo primarily reflects the trust placed in the Mambas ahead of their Africa Cup of Nations Round of 16 clash with Nigeria.
The Mambas will face the Super Eagles this Monday with, in the background, an exceptional financial promise: around 500,000 meticais for each player and every member of the coaching staff if they qualify for the quarterfinals.
Asked at a press conference about the impact of the announcement, Chiquinho Conde dismissed any extra pressure, instead seeing it as a powerful motivational lever. “Our president is a football enthusiast. We are grateful to him for his support and his trust. If he made this promise, it’s because he believes in our chances,” the Mozambican coach explained.
“This bonus is there to inspire us, to push us to play with heart and to grasp the importance of the mission ahead”, he continued, recalling the pride of representing Mozambique on the continental stage. Facing them, Nigeria arrives with an assumed favorite status after sweeping Group C, winning all three of its matches against Tunisia, Tanzania, and Uganda. A major challenge for the Mambas, determined to pull off the upset.
