CAN 2025: Ghanaian Daniel Nii Laryea to referee Nigeria – Morocco
Considered one of the continent’s best referees, the Ghanaian official Daniel Nii Laryea has been appointed by CAF to officiate the AFCON 2025 semi-final between Nigeria and Morocco.
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) officially appointed the Ghanaian referee Daniel Nii Laryea to officiate the Africa Cup of Nations semi-final pitting Nigeria against Morocco. Aged 39, Daniel Nii Laryea is regarded as one of the continent’s best referees. This match will mark his second appearance as a referee at AFCON 2025. He had already officiated in the group stage, notably the match between Algeria and Burkina Faso.
Moreover, the Ghanaian official is well acquainted with the context of this edition, having also taken part in video assistant refereeing (VAR) during the quarter-final won by Morocco over Cameroon. He will be assisted by South African Zakhele Siwela and Lesotho’s Souru Phatsoane, respectively the first and second assistant referees. Rwandan Samuel Uwikunda has been named the fourth official. Finally, the management of VAR officiating has been entrusted to the experienced South African Abongile Tom.
