The Nigerian federation denies that Éric Chelle is leaving for Wydad Casablanca.
Announced as close to Wydad Casablanca by a Moroccan channel, the Super Eagles’ head coach Éric Chelle will not be leaving his post, according to Promise Efoghe, the Nigerian national team’s media manager.
The Super Eagles’ head of media relations, Promise Efoghe, firmly denied reports of an imminent departure of head coach Éric Chelle to Wydad Casablanca. These rumors emerged after a report aired by the Moroccan channel Le7TV, which claimed that the Malian coach was close to signing with the Casablanca club to succeed the current coach Amine Benhachem.
That information was quickly dismissed by Efoghe, who assures that no departure is on the agenda. Since Nigeria’s strong performance at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, which ended in third place, Chelle’s name has regularly circulated in coaches’ transfer rumors, in Africa as well as in Europe. At 48, the former defender remains tied to the Nigerian Football Federation until January 2027, in accordance with the contract that binds him to the Nigerian football governing body.
