An iconic figure of Cameroonian football, Rigobert Song has not lost his sharp tongue. On the eve of the CAN 2025 quarterfinal between Cameroon and Morocco, the former captain of the Indomitable Lions stepped into the debate, faithful to his role as guardian of the temple. Even though he’s no longer on the bench, the legend with 137 caps continues to thrill for the national team, which he follows closely from the Moroccan stands.

As CAF ambassador, Song is pleased with the Lions’ surprising run, qualified at the end of a tournament that had been under control so far. He doesn’t hesitate to praise the work of David Pagou, appointed head coach only a few weeks ago. According to him, the Cameroonian technician has managed to establish a clear framework, make bold choices, and put the team at the heart of the project, ahead of individual statuses.

“David Pagou brings something. There must always be a leader who sets the tempo. He is doing a huge job and his message is getting through (…) He has trained the local teams extensively. He is always listening. He is a very humble person. In football, you have to know how to seize opportunities, and he is doing so. What he is achieving is remarkable”, he told the French media.

The former defender insists on the mindset that currently drives the group, this famous culture of combat and refusal to resign, deeply rooted in Cameroon’s DNA. Facing the host country, Rigobert Song calls for vigilance but also recalls history: Cameroon knows how to transcend itself in knockout matches against host nations. And he concludes, with a provocative smile, that in the savannah of African football, the real lion remains, in his view, indomitable. “There are not two lions in the forest. The real lion is the Indomptable. The others are just nicknames.” See you this Friday night from 8:00 PM (GMT+1) for the verdict!
