Cairo 2026: Brigitte Tchédé wins bronze in shot put, secures second medal
After winning silver in the discus, Brigitte Tchédé secured third place in the shot put with a throw of 12.19 m in Cairo. The Beninese athlete now has two podium finishes at the African University Games.
Brigitte Tchédé claimed the bronze medal in the women’s shot put at the 12th African University Games on Monday, September 14, in Cairo. The athlete from Benin, representing the University of Parakou, finished third with a throw measured at 12.19 meters.
This podium finish comes just twenty-four hours after her silver medal in the discus throw. With these two events, Brigitte Tchédé has now achieved a personal tally of two medals in the continental university competition.
Afrik and Méga Sports both report the mark of 12.19 m and the third-place finish of the Beninese athlete in the competition held on Monday. The two media outlets note that this performance follows her podium finish in the discus event.
In the shot put, Tchédé already held a continental reference with her title won at the 2025 West African Championships in Accra, where the Beninese athlete recorded a throw of 11.33 m.
The throwing specialist is competing in Cairo under the colors of the University of Parakou, which is participating in several disciplines during this 12th edition of the African University Games.
The competition is taking place from September 8 to 16, 2026, in the Egyptian capital.
