Liverpool advanced to the fourth round of the Carabao Cup by defeating Tottenham 3-1 at Anfield, capped off by a spectacular late goal from Dominik Szoboszlai.

Liverpool advanced to the fourth round of the Carabao Cup by defeating Tottenham 3-1 at Anfield on Tuesday, September 15, 2026. Alexis Mac Allister, Cody Gakpo, and Dominik Szoboszlai found the net for the Reds, who made the most of their chances despite several dangerous opportunities from Spurs.
Mac Allister opened the scoring in the 21st minute with a well-placed shot into the top corner. Gakpo doubled the lead in the 54th minute, before Conor Gallagher pulled one back with a header in the 69th minute. Szoboszlai sealed the victory in the 90th+1 minute with a long-range strike following a layoff from Gakpo.
Tottenham had the first clear chances of the match. Lucas Bergvall was denied by Giorgi Mamardashvili, and Mohammed Kudus missed a close-range rebound. After Gallagher’s goal, Mamardashvili again thwarted a shot from Omar Marmoush that could have leveled the score at 2-2.
Andoni Iraola made significant changes to his team for this third-round clash. Despite the alterations, Liverpool capitalized better on their strong periods, while Tottenham suffered from their lack of finishing in front of goal.
The Spurs exit the League Cup at the first hurdle in this third round. Gallagher’s goal at least ended a run of 429 minutes without scoring against a top-flight team for Tottenham, according to The Times.
