Mainz 05 secured a 4-3 victory against Borussia Mönchengladbach on Saturday, September 19, in a thrilling seven-goal match. This marks the fourth consecutive defeat for Borussia in the Bundesliga, bringing their total goals conceded this season to 16.

Mönchengladbach initially took the lead in the 12th minute through Florian Neuhaus. Mainz responded six minutes later with a goal from Phillip Tietz, before Sheraldo Becker put the visitors ahead in stoppage time of the first half.

Isac Lidberg equalized for both teams in the 59th minute, but Eric Martel restored Mainz’s lead in the 78th minute. Danny da Costa then added a fourth goal in the 89th minute. A penalty converted by Shuto Machino in the 90th+5 minute only served to narrow the deficit.

The change in management has yet to halt Borussia’s losing streak. Jan-Moritz Lichte has been serving as interim coach since the dismissal of Eugen Polanski, which followed three consecutive defeats and a 5-0 loss to Freiburg.

Prior to this latest defeat, Mönchengladbach had already suffered a 3-0 loss to Leipzig, a 4-3 defeat to Elversberg, and another 5-0 loss to Freiburg. The 4-3 loss to Mainz extends this streak, resulting in a defensive record of 16 goals conceded in four league matches.
