Premier League: Brighton hands Arsenal first defeat with 3-0 victory

Brighton handed Arsenal their first defeat of the season in the Premier League, winning 3-0 on Saturday, September 19, at the Amex Stadium. Pascal Gross, Charalampos Kostoulas, and Chema Andrés scored for the Seagulls, who climbed into the top three.

Gross opened the scoring in the 31st minute before Kostoulas doubled the lead just before halftime. Chema Andrés added the third goal in the 57th minute, heading in from a corner taken by Gross.

Arsenal arrived in Brighton with four wins from their first four league matches. The defending champions were outplayed this time by a more aggressive team in pressing and more effective in both boxes.

The Gunners had more possession but rarely troubled Bart Verbruggen. Brighton created the clearest chances and even hit the post late in the match after already establishing a three-goal lead.

This victory allows Brighton to reach 10 points after five matches, placing them third. Arsenal remains at 12 points and sees their perfect start to the league come to an end, while Manchester City sits at the top on goal difference ahead of their weekend match.

For this occasion, Brighton wore a special kit inspired by 1901 to celebrate their 125th anniversary. Pascal Gross, who scored the opening goal, also delivered the corner that was headed in by Chema Andrés for the third goal.
