Nicolas Jackson scored on Saturday in Aston Villa’s 3-2 victory over Tottenham at their home ground, marking the Villans’ first win in the Premier League this season. The Spurs, meanwhile, remain winless after five matches and have slipped into the relegation zone.

Johan Manzambi opened the scoring in stoppage time of the first half during his first league start. The 20-year-old midfielder then deflected the ball to Jackson, who doubled the lead in the 67th minute.

Emiliano Buendía extended the score to 3-0 with a long-range strike in the 79th minute. Tottenham pulled one back in the 86th minute through Conor Gallagher, who was set up by Mohammed Kudus, before Jan Paul van Hecke scored with a header in the 98th minute.

Kudus, who came on at halftime, thought he had scored the Spurs’ first league goal of the season earlier, but the play was ruled offside due to Andy Robertson’s involvement in the build-up. The Ghanaian international ultimately provided the assist for Gallagher’s goal.

Manzambi becomes only the second Aston Villa player to score and provide an assist in his first Premier League start since Kevin Phillips in 2005. Jackson has now scored five of his 25 goals in the competition against Tottenham, his favorite opponent in the league.

Aston Villa now has four points after five matches, moving up to 15th place. Tottenham remains in 18th with two points, marking their worst start after five matches in the club’s Premier League history.
