Benin: death of former Ifangni mayor, Joseph Akpata

Benin loses a highly regarded local and national figure. This Monday, June 16, 2025, the commune of Ifangni woke up in mourning following the announcement of the death of Joseph Akpata, former mayor of the commune and advisor in the office of the President of the National Assembly.

A man of conviction, respected both for his integrity and his commitment to his community, Joseph Akpata left his mark on local and national political life. In Ifangni, he served as mayor for several years, distinguishing himself through rigorous management and steady commitment to the sustainable development of his commune.

More recently, he had been entrusted with a mission at the highest level of the state, serving as Technical Advisor for Arts and Culture to the President of the National Assembly. His role, though discreet, was praised in institutional circles for its professional rigor and his passion for promoting Benin’s cultural heritage.

Pending the official announcement of the funeral arrangements, several public figures have already expressed a wish to honor his memory through public tributes.
