Premier League: ten million euro fine, recruitment ban, Chelsea sanctioned for infractions during the Abramovich era.
Chelsea has been fined a hefty sum by the Premier League and handed a suspended recruitment ban after regulatory breaches dating back to the Roman Abramovich era.
Chelsea has been fined £10.75 million by the Premier League, along with a two-year suspended recruitment ban, due to historic breaches of the rules committed during the Roman Abramovich era. The information was made public on Monday in a lengthy statement published by the English league on its official website. According to the authorities, this sanction follows the club’s voluntary self-report regarding potential irregularities in its past governance.
The west London club was subsequently formally charged by The Football Association in September last year. Following the investigation, an independent commission found that the Blues had breached several rules relating to financial disclosures, third-party investments, and the development of young players. These breaches date back to the period before the club’s 2022 takeover by the BlueCo consortium, led notably by Todd Boehly, which had then acquired Chelsea from Roman Abramovich.
