Maddox Jolie Legally Removes ‘Pitt’ from His Name
A Los Angeles court has approved the request of Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt's eldest son. At 25, he is now officially known as Maddox Chivan Jolie.

A Los Angeles County judge granted Maddox Chivan Jolie-Pitt the right to legally change his name to Maddox Chivan Jolie on Monday, September 14, 2026. The 25-year-old son of Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt has officially removed his father’s name from his identity.
Maddox filed his request in May, citing personal reasons. According to court documents reviewed by several U.S. media outlets, no opposition was recorded, and the name change decree was signed following the hearing, which he attended remotely with his attorney.
This change confirms a practice he had already adopted in his professional activities. In the film “Couture,” directed by Angelina Jolie, he was credited as a second assistant director under the name Maddox Jolie, while he still appeared as Maddox Jolie-Pitt in the credits of “Maria.”
He is the second of Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt’s six children to legally remove “Pitt” from their surname. Shiloh obtained the same change in August 2024. Other siblings publicly use only “Jolie,” although not all of these requests have yet been finalized in court.
Angelina Jolie adopted Maddox in Cambodia in March 2002 when he was seven months old. Brad Pitt later adopted him in 2006, the year his name officially became Jolie-Pitt.
Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt separated in September 2016, and their divorce was finalized in December 2024. Their 21-year-old daughter Zahara has also requested to become legally known as Zahara Marley Jolie; her hearing is scheduled for September 28, 2026.
