The screenplay is penned by Bernardo Cubría. Gina Rodriguez will share the screen with professional boxer Ryan Garcia while taking on the roles of director, producer, and actress. No filming or release dates have been disclosed yet.

Wayfarer Studios describes the project as a boxing film “for a new generation,” aiming to center the narrative around a community that has significantly influenced the sport. Gina Rodriguez has expressed her long-standing desire to tell this story and to illustrate what fighting can teach about life.

The actress, who gained widespread recognition for her role as Jane Villanueva, also aims to highlight more Latino narratives. Justin Baldoni praised her ability to tell human stories while noting that boxing has a longstanding place in his personal journey.

This collaboration brings the two actors together more than a decade after the premiere of Jane the Virgin. In the series, which aired from 2014 to 2019, Gina Rodriguez portrayed Jane, while Justin Baldoni played Rafael Solano. Their new partnership will primarily take place behind the camera, with Baldoni serving as a producer.
