Ivory Coast: a 152,000 m³ FSRU to supply power plants starting in 2027

Ivory Coast is set to begin importing LNG at the port of Abidjan in the third quarter of 2027. EXMAR announced on Thursday, September 17, a ten-year contract with CI-Energies and Petroci to provide and operate a floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU).

The FSRU will have a storage capacity of 152,000 m³ and a regasification capacity of 250 million standard cubic feet per day. Petroci will purchase LNG on the international market, and the regasified gas will be delivered to CI-Energies to support electricity production.

This facility is intended to complement national gas production and existing infrastructure as demand for gas and electricity in Ivory Coast continues to rise. EXMAR notes that the needs of neighboring countries are also considered in the project’s design.

The contract encompasses the provision of the FSRU, its operation, and maintenance at the port of Abidjan. EXMAR estimates the expected EBITDA from these agreements to be approximately $21.3 million per year.

Petroci presents this import capacity as an additional and flexible source aimed at enhancing supply security. CI-Energies believes that the project will ensure the availability of gas necessary for the electricity sector in the short, medium, and long term.

The FSRU will have a storage capacity of 152,000 m³ of LNG. Its regasification capacity of 250 million standard cubic feet per day corresponds to the maximum amount of gas that the unit can convert back to gaseous form for injection into the intended uses.
