Owen Ndlovu found dead after abduction near Johannesburg
The former SABC Sport presenter and music rights advocate was abducted on Tuesday evening in Katlehong. Three suspects are being sought.
Former SABC Sport presenter Owen Ndlovu was found dead on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, in Thokoza, in the South African province of Gauteng, just hours after he was abducted during a carjacking in Katlehong.
Ndlovu, who was also involved in advocating for music rights, was on his way to a church to pick up his wife on Tuesday evening. According to the police, three men approached the couple, pushed his wife aside, and forced him into the back of his Ford Raptor before driving away with him.
His body was discovered by the roadside in Thokoza on Wednesday morning. His wife, Portia Ndlovu, later identified him at the morgue, the family reported. An autopsy is set to officially determine the cause of death.
Gauteng police spokesperson Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi announced a manhunt for the three suspects. The stolen vehicle was found abandoned in Walkerville.
The family confirmed Owen Ndlovu’s death in a statement shared by SABC and requested that their privacy be respected. A former face of the public broadcaster’s sports department, he also worked on issues related to artist rights and the music industry.
