“It’s very hard for me…” Anthony Joshua opens up about his tragic accident in Lagos
The former world heavyweight champion, Anthony Joshua, has expressed his deep emotion after the death of his personal trainer and his fitness coach in an accident on the Lagos-Ibadan highway.

The former world heavyweight champion, Anthony Joshua, has broken his silence after the tragic passing of two loved ones, who were killed in a road accident in Nigeria. In early January, the vehicle in which the Nigerian-born British boxer was traveling struck a truck stalled on the Lagos-Ibadan highway. The tragedy claimed the lives of his personal trainer, Kevin Latif Ayodele, as well as his fitness coach, Sina Ghami.
In a message posted this Thursday on his official Facebook page, Anthony Joshua spoke of the pain caused by this brutal loss. The champion noted, however, that the ordeal was even heavier for the victims’ families. “Thank you for all the love and attention you have shown to my brothers. I didn’t even realize how exceptional they were,” Joshua wrote. “We used to joke together, not knowing that God had placed me beside great men.”
Visibly affected, the boxer concluded with a message of compassion: “It’s very hard for me, but I know it’s even more painful for their parents. I stay mentally strong and I believe God knows their hearts. May God have mercy on my brothers.” A poignant testament, reflecting the shock caused by this tragedy in the world of sport.
