On Monday, April 28, 2025, the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) in Wuse Zone 2, Abuja, delivered a historic verdict in the highly publicized case between the state and Peter Nwachukwu, husband of renowned Nigerian gospel singer Osinachi Nwachukwu.

Found guilty of involuntary manslaughter leading to the death of his wife in April 2022, Peter Nwachukwu was sentenced to death by hanging.

The sentence was handed down by Justice Nwosu-Iheme, who emphasized the severity of the actions attributed to the defendant. The judge notably cited the particularly violent behavior that led to Osinachi Nwachukwu’s death.

The case, closely followed by the public with deep emotion and outrage over nearly three years, revealed numerous instances of domestic abuse suffered by the late singer, a respected figure in the Nigerian gospel community.

Formally charged on June 3, 2022, by the Office of the Attorney General of the Federation (OAGF), Peter Nwachukwu faced a total of 23 counts, including involuntary manslaughter, criminal intimidation, cruelty against children, and various acts of domestic violence.
