Champions League: Real Madrid’s group to face Benfica
Real Madrid announced on Monday the list of players selected for the trip to Lisbon, where Alvaro Arbeloa’s men will face José Mourinho’s Benfica in the first leg of the Champions League playoff.
On the eve of the clash at Estádio da Luz, Real Madrid announced an expanded squad of 24 players. A crucial tie since the winner of this two-legged encounter will secure their place in the round of 16 of the competition.
In goal, Thibaut Courtois is indeed in the squad, alongside Andriy Lunin and the young Fran González. In defense, Antonio Rüdiger, Ferland Mendy and Dani Carvajal are present, as is David Alaba. Trent Alexander-Arnold, Fran García, Huijsen, Joan Martínez and Á. Carreras complete the defensive line.
In midfield, Eduardo Camavinga, Federico Valverde and Aurélien Tchouameni will be major assets, alongside Dani Ceballos and Arda Güler. Thiago, Cestero also provide additional options. Finally, the attacking line looks particularly well-stocked with Vini Jr., Kylian Mbappé, Brahim Díaz, Gonzalo and the Argentine prodigy Franco Mastantuono.
