Benin: no more long waits at the DGI, candidates in the 2026 elections can get their tax clearance certificate online
The General Directorate of Taxes (DGI) announced that obtaining the tax clearance certificate, required to stand in the 2026 general elections, will now be done exclusively online via the platform quitus.impots.bj. This innovation ends the long lines in the corridors of the tax administration.

SUMMARY
In a statement dated September 12, 2025 and signed by Director General Nicolas Yenoussi, the DGI specifies that each candidate must assemble a digital file containing their personal information (surname, given names, profession, contact details), as well as proof of tax compliance as of December 31, 2024.
The taxes concerned include property taxes, the motor vehicle tax (TVM), professional taxes, income taxes and the business license (patente). For employees, a pay stub less than three months old is required.
Beyond simplification, this reform aims to strengthen the transparency and traceability of the electoral process. However, the DGI reminds taxpayers whose properties have never been taxed that they must first regularize their situation with the competent authorities before making any online request.
A support service to assist users
To help candidates and avoid any difficulties using the platform, the DGI provides a support service. Those concerned can dial the 133 or write to the address [email protected] for any further information.
By introducing this digital procedure, the tax administration intends to streamline service to users and ensure that only candidates in good standing with the tax authorities can run in the 2026 elections.
