Benin: Colonel-Major Djimon Dieudonné Tévoedjrè promoted to Brigadier General
United in an extraordinary meeting of the Council of Ministers on Thursday, December 26, the government proceeded with a series of appointments and promotions within the public security forces and the national armed forces. These decisions, taking effect on different dates beginning January 2026, reflect the authorities’ intention to reinforce the chain of command and adapt the security apparatus to current challenges.

SUMMARY
At the Ministry of Interior and Public Security, the council endorsed the appointment of Brice Kocou Allowanou to the rank of Inspector General of Police, 2nd Class. Currently the General Controller of Police, this promotion will take effect on January 15, 2026. It is part of the ongoing drive to professionalize and consolidate the chain of command within the Republican Police.
At the National Defense Ministry level, several senior officers have been elevated to strategic ranks, marking a significant turning point in the organization of the high military command. Thus, Bertin Bada is promoted to the rank of General of the Air Army, with effect from January 1, 2026. This appointment recognizes his career within the Air Force and his decisive role during the failed coup of December 7, 2025.
Furthermore, two officers attain the rank of General of the Army Corps. They are Fructueux Candide Ahodègnon Gbaguidi, promoted to this rank from January 1, 2026, and Abou Issa, whose promotion will take effect on January 15, 2026.
The council also decided to promote Djimon Dieudonné Tevoedjre, formerly Colonel-Major, to the rank of Brigadier General, effective January 1, 2026. In the same category is Faïzou Gomina, a colonel promoted to Brigadier General starting January 15, 2026.
