The Republican Police announced, on Friday, December 27, 2025, the dismantling of a network involved in the manufacture and sale of adulterated alcoholic beverages in the commune of Pahou, in southern Benin.

The operation followed information that products dangerous to health were circulating on the local market. At the end of the investigation, the authorities arrested several people involved in this illicit trafficking.
During searches conducted in clandestine manufacturing workshops, the police seized containers of artisanal beverages, suspicious raw materials, as well as production equipment not compliant with health standards.
The samples collected will be subjected to analyses to determine their composition and assess their danger. The suspects have been placed in police custody for the purposes of the investigation. They will be presented to the competent judicial authorities at the end of the police procedure. The acts they are accused of could be classified as an offense against public health, due to the risks faced by consumers of these products.

The authorities have urged merchants and consumers to remain vigilant and to report any suspicious activity related to the production or sale of food or drinks that do not meet current standards.
