Asian Champions League: Ronaldo and Al-Nassr thrashed 4-0 by Al-Ain

Cristiano Ronaldo and Al-Nassr suffered a heavy 4-0 defeat against Al-Ain on Tuesday, September 15, in the United Arab Emirates, marking their opening match in the Elite Asian Champions League. Houssine Rahimi scored twice, while his brother Soufiane and Giorgos Giakoumakis added to the Emirati club’s emphatic victory.

Houssine Rahimi opened the scoring in the 25th minute and doubled the lead in the 63rd. Soufiane Rahimi extended the advantage to 3-0 in the 72nd minute before assisting Giakoumakis for the fourth goal in the 85th, according to the official report from the Asian Football Confederation.

Al-Nassr never managed to get back into the match. Cristiano Ronaldo notably saw a late free kick saved by goalkeeper Khalid Eisa, while Al-Ain maintained their lead until the final whistle.

The Saudi Arabian champions begin their continental campaign without any points and have only one victory in their last four matches. Al-Nassr has yet to win the Asian Champions League.

Al-Ain, already a two-time winner of the Asian competition, secured three points on the opening day. After the match, Ange Postecoglou stated that he takes responsibility for Al-Nassr’s performance.
