38 matches unbeaten, Spain secures De la Fuente until 2032
World champions in July, Spain has extended Luis de la Fuente's contract until 2032. The RFEF entrusts the coach with a cycle covering Euro 2028, Euro 2032, and the 2030 World Cup.
The board of the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) unanimously approved the extension of Luis de la Fuente’s contract until 2032 on Monday. The head coach will remain in charge of La Roja following their triumph at the 2026 World Cup.
The new agreement encompasses Euro 2028, the 2030 World Cup, and Euro 2032. This secures De la Fuente’s position for a six-year cycle after he has led the national team to three titles.
The deadline announced on Monday further extends the terms of the agreement. A first horizon until 2030 had been reported on September 16, prior to the ratification of the new contract by the board of the Spanish Football Federation.
De la Fuente, 65, has been with the RFEF since 2013 after managing several youth teams. He took over the senior team in December 2022, following the World Cup in Qatar.
His tenure has since yielded the 2023 Nations League, Euro 2024, and the 2026 World Cup. Spain is also on a remarkable unbeaten streak of 38 matches, the longest in its history.
The RFEF is set to formally present the agreement at the Ciudad del Fútbol. The new contract covers the next two Euros, in 2028 and 2032, as well as the 2030 World Cup.
