Premier League: After his red card, Abdul Fatawu targeted by racist abuse
The English club has contacted authorities following online racist attacks against the Ghanaian winger, who was sent off on Saturday during the defeat to Everton.
Ipswich Town has launched an investigation in conjunction with the Premier League and relevant authorities following online racist abuse directed at Abdul Fatawu. The Ghanaian international was targeted after his club’s 1-0 defeat against Everton on Saturday, September 19.
Fatawu received a red card in the 67th minute after a second yellow card, which was issued for simulation according to match reports. Ipswich was then down to ten men, while Everton had taken the lead with a goal from Thierno Barry in the 11th minute.
The English club condemned the incidents as unacceptable discriminatory behavior and assured that it would continue to support its player. The Premier League also announced it is working with clubs, authorities, law enforcement, and social media platforms. Identified perpetrators face potential stadium bans and legal action.
At 22 years old, Abdul Fatawu is a Ghanaian international. The winger joined Ipswich Town in July 2026 after his stint at Leicester City.
