Recalled by Thomas Tuchel after missing the 2026 World Cup, Cole Palmer is expected to withdraw from the England squad due to a muscle injury. His return to the Three Lions will be cut short ahead of the Nations League opener against Spain on Saturday, September 26, at Wembley.
Reuters and several British media outlets reported on Monday, September 21, that the Chelsea player is unlikely to join the England group. The 24-year-old attacking midfielder had played the full match in Chelsea’s 3-0 defeat to Brentford on Friday.
Palmer was recalled on Friday by Tuchel after being left off the England squad for the 2026 World Cup. The head coach highlighted his strong start to the season, noting that he had regained influence in the game and made decisive contributions with Chelsea.
The player has participated in Chelsea’s first seven matches this season, scoring four goals and providing two assists. His absence would deprive England of an additional attacking option during a tightly packed international window featuring four matches.
The Three Lions are set to host Spain on September 26, travel to the Czech Republic on September 29, then to Croatia on October 3, before facing the Czech team again at Wembley on October 6.
