2026 presidential election in Benin: the party Les Démocrates launches a call for candidates for its presidential ticket
The party Les Démocrates launched, on September 28, 2025, a call for applications to select its presidential and vice-presidential ticket. Aspirants have until October 4, 2025 to submit their dossiers, ahead of the deadline set by the CENA from October 10 to 14.

SUMMARY
Les Démocrates is entering the home stretch for the 2026 presidential election. In accordance with the schedule of the Commission Électorale Nationale Autonome (CENA), it must designate its candidate duo for the highest office. To this end, an official notice signed by the president of the internal selection commission, Christophe Monsia, was published on September 28, 2025.
The call clearly sets the conditions to be met to be eligible for candidacy. Only party members who are up to date with their dues, known for their commitment, financial and moral contributions, and their integrity, may compete. Candidates must also demonstrate unifying leadership and a recognized political presence in their constituency.
Required documents range from the certificate of nationality to the tax clearance for the last three years, including the criminal record extract (bulletin no. 3), proof of party membership and a passport photo. Additional documents include proof of activity within the party, a certificate of support from local structures and a sworn statement that they are not subject to ineligibility.
A regulated and costly process
Moral support alone is not enough: a deposit of 25 million FCFA is required, consisting of 20 million and 5 million in separate checks. This sum, the party specifies, is refunded to unsuccessful candidates up to 20 million. In addition, applicants must submit a profile sheet outlining their political career, motivations and vision for 2026.
Dossiers will be evaluated in two stages: an administrative review followed by interviews with candidates. The party also expects aspirants to present a clear roadmap, including at least five priority projects for the first year in office, as well as a proven ability to mobilize resources for the presidential campaign and subsequent elections.
The deadline to submit applications is set for Saturday, October 4, 2025 at 6:00 PM, at the party’s administrative headquarters in Fifadji, Cotonou. Any additional information can be obtained from the administrative secretariat or the party’s treasury secretariat.
