Real Madrid 2-1 Inter Milan: Mourinho does not see Valverde as man of the match
Despite his decisive goal against Inter Milan, Federico Valverde did not fully convince José Mourinho. The Real Madrid coach believes that Thibaut Courtois deserved the Man of the Match title more after the Merengues’ victory (2-1).
Federico Valverde contributed to Real Madrid’s success against Inter Milan by scoring the second Madrid goal. This achievement allowed the Merengues to start their Champions League campaign with a victory at the Santiago Bernabéu.
But for José Mourinho, the Uruguayan midfielder was not the most deserving player to receive the man of the match award. The Portuguese coach instead highlighted the performance of Thibaut Courtois.
The Belgian goalkeeper stood out particularly during the match, making numerous decisive interventions to maintain his team’s advantage. His saves allowed Real Madrid to withstand Inter’s attacks and secure the three points at the end of a hard-fought game. For Mourinho, Courtois would therefore have been a more logical choice for this award, given his influence on Madrid’s success.
