Real Betis overturned Lille 3-2 on Tuesday, September 8, at the Stade Pierre-Mauroy, in a spectacular match counting for the first day of the Champions League group stage.

Lille had a perfect start with Ayase Ueda opening the scoring in the 12th minute. Marc Bartra equalized in the 33rd, but Alexsandro Ribeiro restored the lead for the Nordistes three minutes later, allowing LOSC to lead 2-1 at halftime.

Betis completely turned the match around after the break. Bartra scored his second goal in the 49th minute, before Troy Parrott netted the third Spanish goal in the 53rd minute from an Isco pass.

The evening became even more complicated for Lille when Ethan Mbappé was sent off in the 56th minute. Reduced to ten men, the French team failed to equalize despite their efforts in the final half hour.

Betis therefore leaves northern France with three valuable points, while Lille begins its European campaign with a home defeat despite having taken the lead twice.
