Pendjari National Park: the Beninese army neutralizes 17 attackers
An armed attack carried out against a military position in Pendjari National Park was repelled by the Beninese Defense and Security Forces. The army says that 17 assailants were neutralized during the fighting on Saturday, March 7, 2026.
In northern Benin, a military position located at Lodge Pendjari, inside the eponymous national park, was targeted by an armed offensive last Saturday. The assailants took the initiative to attack this strategic position, but the response of the units deployed on site was immediate and decisive.
The soldiers quickly repelled the assault thanks to coordinated ground maneuvers, supported by aerial support. At the end of the fighting, the Beninese forces neutralized 17 members of the armed groups involved in the attack.
The counterattack was also marked by heavy losses on the side of the national forces. One soldier lost his life during the exchanges, recalling the human cost of these clashes.
This offensive, occurring in a zone already sensitive due to the progression of the terrorist threat in the border region, is part of the security efforts led by the Beninese army.
The Pendjari attack follows another violent action that occurred a few days earlier in the north of the country, where military positions were targeted. These events underscore the persistence of risks posed by armed groups in this part of the national territory and the determination of the defense forces to confront them.
