Nigeria: Ima to supply one-third of gas for Train 7 starting in 2028
TotalEnergies and AMNI have made the final investment decision for the offshore Ima field. Production is expected to begin in 2028, following development linked by a 22-kilometer pipeline to the Bonny Island plant.
The offshore Ima gas field is set to produce 350 million cubic feet per day starting in 2028, providing approximately one-third of the gas needed for the expansion of Nigeria LNG’s Train 7. TotalEnergies and its Nigerian partner AMNI announced the final investment decision on Wednesday, September 23, which allows for the project’s development to proceed.
The field spans the OML 112 and OML 117 licenses, located in shallow waters near Bonny Island. A single platform will be connected to the liquefaction plant via a 22-kilometer pipeline. TotalEnergies will operate the project with a 40% stake, while AMNI will hold 60%.
The gas will supply Train 7, a project aimed at increasing the complex’s capacity from 22 to 30 million tons per year. At peak production, Ima is expected to yield over 60,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day.
TotalEnergies plans to provide power from the shore, with no routine flaring, and will implement a permanent methane detection system. Major contracts are expected to be awarded to Nigerian companies, and approximately 60% of the jobs created during development are anticipated to be sourced from local communities.
