Harvey Weinstein sentenced to 15 years in prison after new trial
The former producer has already spent over six years in detention. He faced up to 25 years for the assault on Miriam Haley.
Harvey Weinstein was sentenced to 15 years in prison on Wednesday, September 23, by a Manhattan court for the sexual assault of former production assistant Miriam Haley. The incident occurred in 2006 at the former producer’s New York apartment.
In 2020, Weinstein received a 23-year sentence after being found guilty of assaulting Haley and raping actress Jessica Mann. New York’s highest court overturned this conviction in 2024, ruling that the initial trial was marred by procedural errors, and ordered a retrial.
At the conclusion of the new trial in 2025, the jury again found him guilty regarding Miriam Haley. They acquitted him in another sexual assault case and were unable to reach a verdict on the rape charge brought by Jessica Mann. This latter charge was ultimately dropped in June 2026 after a subsequent trial ended in failure.
Weinstein, 74, denies having had non-consensual sexual relations and is expected to appeal the sentence handed down in New York, according to the Associated Press.
A separate conviction in California remains in effect. The guilty verdict for rape and sexual assault was upheld on appeal in July, but the 16-year sentence is set to be reviewed because the judge had considered the subsequently overturned New York convictions.
