Nigeria: APC wins 4 out of 5 seats, APM claims victory in Bauchi

The All Progressives Congress (APC) secured four of the five legislative by-elections held on Saturday, September 19, in Nigeria, while the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) won the Sakwa seat in Bauchi State. The results were announced following the conclusion of the collation process.

The elections included one federal seat in Gombe and four state assembly seats in Kano, Bauchi, and Delta. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had scheduled these five by-elections for September 19to fill vacancies caused by deaths, a resignation, a defection, and the departure of an elected official to the House of Representatives.

In Gombe, APC candidate Kallamu Usman MaiJama’a won the Gombe/Kwami/Funakaye federal constituency with 41,121 votes. In Kano, Hussaini Yusuf Datti claimed victory for the APC in the Dawakin Kudu constituency with 22,890 votes.

In Delta State, Okolosi Ator, also an APC candidate, was declared the winner in Udu with 8,724 votes. In Bauchi, the APC maintained its lead in Disina, where Yakubu Ali received 5,846 votes compared to 5,225 for the APM.

However, the APM won the Sakwa seat in the Zaki local government area. Its candidate, Adamu Yakubu, garnered 8,515 votes, against 3,771 for the APC, according to the reported results.

The Bauchi elections were also marked by a security incident. The state police announced the arrest of 47 individuals identified as members of a local security structure, who were found with firearms, machetes, and sticks at polling stations in Disina. The suspects have been transferred to the state criminal investigation department.
