Ivory Coast: Guillaume Soro re-elected as head of GPS unopposed

Guillaume Soro has been re-elected as the head of Générations et Peuples Solidaires (GPS) following an internal vote held on Saturday, September 26, 2026. The former Ivorian Prime Minister was the only candidate running for the presidency of his movement.

This re-election comes at the end of a process that began in early September. The submission of candidacies opened on September 8 after the decision by the National Conference of Citizen Expression to set September 26 for the renewal of the GPS president’s mandate.

Guillaume Soro officially announced his candidacy on September 12. His campaign team reported the submission of his application the following day to the movement’s electoral committee. By the end of the submission period, no competing candidacies had been registered.

Guillaume Soro remains at the helm of GPS

A former Prime Minister and former President of the National Assembly, Guillaume Soro has led GPS since its inception. His re-election thus maintains the current leadership of the movement, which continues its political activities from abroad.

The internal process included the presentation of a program focused on the future of GPS and its proposals for Ivory Coast. The re-election of Guillaume Soro did not come with any new announcements regarding a potential return to Ivory Coast or a future national candidacy, according to the publicly released information.
