Ivory Coast: 50,085 tons of cocoa traced in two weeks as ports see 51.6% increase

Ivory Coast recorded 50,085 tons of cocoa beans through its National Traceability System between September 7 and September 20, 2026, marking the first two weeks of the 2026-2027 campaign. During the same period, port receipts increased by 51.6% compared to the same timeframe in 2025.

In total, 770 cooperatives and approved buyers utilized the system for transactions involving 70,525 producers. The system is designed to track the origin of the beans from production areas through various stages of the supply chain.

During this period, 1,032 bills of lading corresponding to 40,947 tons expected were validated by 40 exporters. In the ports of Abidjan and San Pedro, 21,467 tons had been received by September 20, compared to 14,165 tons a year earlier.

Traceability becomes a commercial issue

The 2026-2027 campaign aims to advance the Ivorian sector towards fully traceable cocoa, as international markets strengthen their requirements regarding origin and sustainability.

Ivory Coast remains the world’s leading cocoa producer, and the European market continues to be a major outlet for its beans and processed products.
